Funeral Information

I just got word that Rob will be flown to Nebraska on Saturday. We will have a wake for the public on Sunday Dec 7th from 1-3pm in the Osceola Downtown City Auditorium. The funeral will be at 10am on Monday December 8th also at the Osceola Downtown City Auditorium. The address for this will be below. Also, I've got myself a PO Box while I'm at my parents for mail to be sent to me so you don't have to email me for the address. It is posted on the side of the blog. Again, thank you so much for all the support and prayers you've shown for Rob and our family.

Dena, This is Stephanie from the Fisher House. I just got out of the hospital today after my chemo and heard the news that Rob is now with God and is at peace. You and your family are in my prayers and will be always and forever and you know I am here if you need me.

Rob was a great cadet and a great LT when we were at UNL. I am terribly sad to hear of his passing.

Dena,
May you feel God's love as you are surrounded by family and friends who care. I know Karen will be there for you and years from now. I always enjoyed asking about little Julia when she was over at Jason and Karen's. I hope you know your strength and courage is an inspiration. Stay strong.

Dena,

My prayers will be with you and your girls as you go through the next week, and far beyond. As another military wife my heart breaks with sorrow from the loss of your soldier, and swells with pride with how you continued to represent Rob and your country with Grace and Courage during this painfully difficult time.

Thank you for your example and may God Bless you and your girls as you carry on together.

In Love and Peace,
Hanging-on-mom

I was deely saddened to hear of rob's ordeal and the thoughts and prayers of the entire Peterson family in Osceola go out to Dena, as well as the Gissler, Schott, and Yllescas families. I will always remember Rob (we called him Bert back then) coming to Nebraska during the winter, when we were in grade school, to visit family and attending school with us for a few weeks while he was here. It always seemed like he fit in well and was everyone's friend even though he was so far from home. As I have monitored Dena's posts over the last few weeks it was obvious how strong he was. He was a true fighter, and I am proud to say that I knew him.

God Bless,
Kevin Peterson

I typed several messages only to erase and leave this simple thought ... imagine Rob being held firmly in Jesus' loving arms and they're both smiling. He's home. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dena, There really isn't anything that can be said to heal your pain. Please know that there will be many other military wives at the funeral who will kindly open their arms to you. Our husband's job is a unique one and probably not one the average person can understand. These men (and women) choose everday to go into harm's way to defend the freedom of our Country and they ask for nothing in return. Rob's heroism is truly unbelievable. He sacrificed so much and he did it without ever asking for anything. We military wives know that none of our husbands will ever die in vain. What they do for you and me is provide a safe haven for our beautiful children to grow up in.
Thank you Rob, we are all so proud of you. You fought the hardest battle of your life and you did it with grace and dignity and now, we will all come to honor you.

You have no idea how grateful our family was to know you and to have served with you.
Please rest peacfully, knowing that we will all be here to take care of Dena and the adorable girls.
We love you

Dena, girls & family, we just want you to know that our family in Rushville, NE sends our sympathies to you. I thank you for allowing us to keep updated with the ups and downs you have all been through over the past several weeks. I'd like to recommend you listen to this song "WELCOME HOME" BY DOLLY PARTON(STARS AND STRIPES). My dad was a veteran & he selected that song for his own funeral, before he passed of cancer 3 yrs ago. There is so much truth & I have found so much comfort in the lyrics. On those especially difficult days ahead, may you remember all of the great times you shared together as a family. Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. Gone but never forgotten.

A grieving cyber friend.

i think it's appropriate that the funeral happens on a day when the whole nation will be memorializing our fallen heroes from pearl harbor.

You don't know me, and I don't know you. I came upon here by coincidence, but just wanted to say I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't know what you and your children are going through, I can't say I know how you feel - in fact I feel like I can say a whole lot. But I will be praying for you as you go through this time. Something that has always comforted me is the knowledge that 'God knows'.

Bad things do happen, but God doesn't turn his eyes away from you for a moment. He knows it all. He knows you're hurting. We don't always understand what happens in our lives, but we have someone stronger to lean on than ourselves. Someone who can hold us in the palm of his hand. Someone who is not a cold and distant figure, but one who is interested in the day-to-day aspects of our lives, and our feelings.

Whilst you may not see it now, I think there are many who will be looking forward to seeing the beauty of grace worked in your lives.

With love, respect, and prayers from the other side of the world.

Dena, you are a shining example of what a true military wife is!! You are a true inspiration to us military wives. If your husband was anything like mine, he absolutley loved what he did and truly believed in it!! Thank you so much for your bravery and sharing this journey with all of us! You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. I wish I would have read this blog sooner as I too am from Nebraska but we are stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland. We don't live too far from Bethesda, I would have loved to meet you! Take care and stay strong!

A fellow army wife!!

Dena~ I just logged onto Armytimes and the first thing I saw was a picture of Rob...All I could do was bawl my eyes out! I am so sorry for your pain! A little different scenerio, but my brother lost his 11 year old daughter to their house fire! It has been almost 6 years and he is healing. The military transport will arrive at the Lincoln Guard Base on Saturday Dec 6 at approximately 1:20 pm - there will be a state patrol escort to the Seward county line on the interstate where the York Sheriff department will pick up the escort and proceed through York County. They will go through downtown York (approximately 2 pm) - we are posting the word for people to line the streets and honor our fallen hero. The escort will continue to Polk county line on highway 81 where the Sheriff Dept from Polk county will continue the escort to Osceola (approximately 3 pm) - the communities of Stromsburg and Osceola will also continue to line the way to pay tribute.

Gods blessings to the family as they bring Rob home to rest

To all those who would like to show their love, respect and sorrow for this fallen soldier, please make a monetary contribution either directly to the family and/or to one of the 3 listed charities. Flowers are beautiful & are short-term. I can only imagine the expenses Dena has incurred over the last few months. One less worry will allow Dena to concentrate on her and the girls healing.
Dena, we've all grown to love you and we share in your sorrow.
